Collection: FontanaArte Lighting & Furniture

FontanaArte lighting and glass furniture for living, dining and hospitality spaces

Pendant lights for dining tables and stairwells, table lamps for bedsides and consoles, floor lamps for reading corners, wall lights for corridors and glass furniture for living rooms and lobbies, from the Milan house that has shaped Italian light since 1932. Every page lists dimensions in inches and centimetres, light source, dimming and installation.

FontanaArte began in Milan in 1932, when the glassworks Luigi Fontana & C., working in crystal and glass since 1881, launched a brand with Gio Ponti as artistic director. Pietro Chiesa, Max Ingrand, Gae Aulenti and Franco Raggi followed, and the catalogue grew into lamps and glass furniture that still sit at the centre of Italian design: Bilia and the 1932 coffee table from Ponti, Luminator from Chiesa, Fontana from Ingrand, Parola and Tavolo con Ruote from Aulenti, Teso from Renzo Piano. FontanaArte won the Compasso d'Oro in 1998 and entered Italy's Register of Historic Trademarks in 2022.

For a room, what matters is how each piece behaves. Blown and satin glass diffuses light softly, so most FontanaArte lamps give an even glow rather than glare; LED models such as Yumi, Equatore, Volée and Oort add dimming and low running heat; and the glass tables and shelving carry daylight through a space instead of blocking it.

How to choose

  • Over a dining table or island: a pendant roughly half to two-thirds the table width, hung so the bottom sits about 28–34 in above the top. Amax, Avico and Pinecone for presence; Bianca, Equatore and Bolla for a softer glass glow; 0024 and Pallina for a lighter line.
  • Bedside and console: table lamps with diffused glass: Uovo, Bianca, Daruma, Bilia, Fontana 1853, Mano. Cordless Uovo Portable, Bilia Mini Portable and Cameo go where there is no outlet.
  • Reading and work: adjustable task lights (Naska table, clamp and wall; Volée; Demi Volée) and the Yumi arc floor lamp.
  • Ambient room light: uplighting floor lamps that wash the ceiling: Luminator, Flute, Pirellone, Oort.
  • Corridors, stairs and entries: Bonnet, Nobi, IO, Lunaire, Parola Wall and the Bianca, Pallina and Sillaba wall/ceiling lights.
  • Living rooms and lobbies: glass coffee tables (1932, Fontana, Tavolo con Ruote), Teso dining, console and shelving, and Cartoccio vases.
