Collection: Tom Rossau Lighting

Tom Rossau lamps are sculpture you can switch on: thin strips of birch, paper or nonwoven, twisted by hand in Copenhagen into shapes that hide the bulb and fill a room with soft light.

Tom Rossau grew up in Odsherred, on the curving north-west coast of Zealand that has drawn Danish painters for generations, and released his first lamps in 2005. The TR5, his first lamella lamp, began with an experiment: pressing wooden slats into a cylinder to see how they behaved. Twenty years on, every lamp is still made by one lamp builder in the company’s own workshop beside its flagship store on Frederiksberg Allé, and arrives with that builder’s signed card. We have been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and Tom Rossau is one of the few makers whose pieces are genuinely handmade, start to finish.

The lamps we sell are US versions: 120V and UL listed. Sizes held in US stock ship in about 3 business days; made-to-order pieces are built for you in Copenhagen and delivered in about 10 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Tom Rossau lamps made?

Every lamp is built by hand in Tom Rossau’s own workshop on Frederiksberg Allé in Copenhagen, Denmark, by a single lamp builder who signs the card that comes with it.

Are Tom Rossau lamps wired for the US?

Yes. The lamps we sell are the US versions: 120V, UL listed, with E26 sockets (E12 on the smallest models). Bulbs are not included.

How long does a Tom Rossau lamp take to arrive?

Sizes held in US stock ship in about 3 business days. Made-to-order pieces are handmade in Copenhagen and delivered in about 10 weeks (70 days). Each product page lists which options are in stock.

Do Tom Rossau lamps need assembly?

No, they arrive fully assembled, except the flat-packed No.111 series, which needs simple assembly at home.

How do I care for a birch Tom Rossau lamp?

Dust it with a soft, dry brush and keep it away from water and steam. Birch is a living material and develops a gentle patina over time.
