The FontanaArte 0024 suspension light is a glass pendant for dining rooms, entries, stairwells and hotel lobbies: a column of light wrapped in horizontal discs of clear tempered glass that read as a single luminous sphere once they are lit. Each disc catches the glow at its edge, so the lamp draws fine bright rings in the air and gives soft, even light below. Light quality and how it performs

The light source sits in a vertical glass diffuser at the centre of the stack, and the discs do the rest. Clear tempered glass passes most of the light straight through, while each polished edge picks up a bright line, so you see a sphere drawn in rings rather than a solid shade. The result is generous, glare-free ambient light that spreads across a table and up onto the ceiling, with real sparkle at eye level.

The Medium version uses an integrated LED rated 34W and 3640 lumens at 2700 K, a warm white close to incandescent, with a colour rendering index above 90 so food, wood and skin tones look natural. It is dimmable via DALI, a digital lighting-control protocol: plan for a DALI-compatible dimmer or control system with your electrician. The Large version takes G5 lamps with a total of 54W and is made on request.

Size and placement

Over a dining table. As general guidance, hang the bottom of a pendant about 30 to 36 in (76 to 91 cm) above the tabletop, so diners see each other under it and the light lands on the table. The Medium, at 20.8 in (53 cm) across, suits a round table of roughly 42 to 60 in or the centre of a rectangular table; two Medium lamps in a row work over a long table of 84 in or more.

In an entry or foyer. Leave at least 7 ft (213 cm) of clearance between the floor and the bottom of the lamp where people walk. In a two-storey entry, centre the lamp in the space and let it hang so it can be seen from both levels.

In a stairwell. Hang the lamp in the open well, not over the treads, and keep around 7 ft of clearance above the nearest step. The disc stack reads well from above and below, which makes the 0024 a strong choice where it will be seen from several floors.

The Large size. At 55.7 in (141 cm) across and 54.5 in (138 cm) tall, the Large is an architectural piece for lobbies, atriums, double-height living rooms and restaurant dining rooms with high ceilings. Confirm ceiling height, structure and the drop with your installer before ordering.

Installation. The 0024 is hardwired: it connects to a ceiling junction box and finishes with a canopy at the ceiling. The suspension can be set up to 82.6 in (210 cm), per the maker drawing, and a licensed electrician should install it.

Where it works

Homes. Over a dining table, the 0024 gives warm, flattering light and becomes the centrepiece of the room. In an entry hall or stairwell it greets guests with a glowing glass sculpture; in a primary bedroom or dressing room with good ceiling height it gives soft ambient light without the weight of a fabric shade. In bathrooms, keep it in dry areas away from showers and tubs, as allowed by local code.

Hospitality and commercial spaces. Hotel lobbies, restaurant dining rooms, bars, reception areas, gallery corridors and boardrooms all suit it. A row of Medium lamps marks a corridor or a long banquette, and a single Large lamp anchors a double-height lobby. The integrated LED and DALI dimming fit into building lighting-control schemes.

Care

Switch off the power and let the lamp cool before cleaning. Dust the discs with a soft, dry microfiber cloth. For fingerprints, wipe the glass with a cloth lightly dampened with water or a mild glass cleaner applied to the cloth, never sprayed onto the lamp, then dry it. Handle the discs carefully and keep moisture away from the electrical parts.
