Mammalampa

Mammalampa: handmade designer lighting from Riga, Latvia, made to order from paper, rusted steel and gold leaf, painted canvas, and marble with Swarovski crystals.

Mammalampa is a family company founded by designer Ieva Kalēja and her sister after Ieva returned from her studies in Milan; their father became the studio’s technical expert. The name joins “mamma” (origin, care, the human touch) with “lampa” (light). The idea is to do less to a material, not more: braided paper, naturally corroding steel, painted canvas and stone are left to show their own texture, and every lamp is made by hand in Latvia, so no two are identical. Latvian design magazine FOLD reports that Elle Decor named Ieva Kalēja one of the world’s ten most talented women designers in 2020, and in 2026 she chairs the product-design jury of Latvia’s National Design Award. According to Mammalampa, its lamps hang in projects such as Tom’s Kitchen in London, Marie Burgos Design interiors in Manhattan, the Story27 offices in Los Angeles and the Dome Hotel in Riga. How to choose

For soft, romantic light, The Bride’s braided paper is the warmest choice. For drama, The Queen’s gold-leaf interior throws golden light down onto a table. For color, The Sisters are hand-painted like small canvases, and you can mix colorways. For sparkle, The Duchess sets Swarovski crystals into marble. Every piece is made to order with a lead time of about 55 days, is UL listed for 120V, and carries a 3-year warranty. The largest pieces ship by truck freight.
