Collection: Mate Mono

Mate Mono: Japanese bags from a textile mill that hates waste.

Mate Mono is the bag brand of Komatsu Matere, the textile dyeing and finishing company founded in Ishikawa, Japan, in 1943. Some bags are knitted in one piece so nothing is cut away; others are made from surplus industrial fabric, finished with the mill’s own glossy coatings. We’ve been curating design-led pieces since 2009.

How to choose

For a light everyday bag, the knitted Lilly and Tile stand or hang neatly and hold the essentials. For evenings, the Horn clutch collapses flat and the Tekateka shoulder bag knots into a clutch. For work, the Tekateka tote takes A4 papers and a laptop. The Shiny Shell and Shiny Fold are glossy, light crossbody bags for travel and errands.
