Meridiano works in two layers of glass. The LED sits behind an inner cylinder of Pyrex glass painted on the inside, which turns it into a soft, even column of warm light. That column is wrapped in a blown-glass capsule tinted grey-fumé, which tones the glow down further and gives the lamp its smoky, lantern-like look.
