Architect and designer Michele De Lucchi, a protagonist of Italian radical design since the 1970s, founded Produzione Privata in 1990 with Sibylle Kicherer to make experimental objects free of commission. Its laboratories work in glass, ceramics, wood and metal with skilled craftspeople, and the glass is blown one piece at a time, so each lamp is similar to its siblings but never identical. The best known is the Acquatinta pendant (1996), whose single blown diffuser also holds the bulb. We’ve been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and every Produzione Privata light we sell is new.

How to choose
For a kitchen island or dining table, hang two or three Acquatinta pendants, or a cluster of the small Acquamiki Diamond. For a statement over a round table, the 16.5″ Chapeau. For walls, the Acquaparete turns up or down for indirect or direct light, and the Perseo 15 gives a soft lantern glow. All are made in Italy for indoor use and are installed by an electrician.
