Light quality and how it performs

Bonnet is an indirect light. The LED points at the wall, not at you, so the eye meets a matt cream surface and the wall itself becomes the light source. That makes it one of the most comfortable ways to light a passage or a bedroom: no glare when you walk toward it, no hot spot reflected in a glossy floor, just a broad, warm (2700 K) glow that grazes the wall texture. At 2300 lumens it is strong enough to light a corridor or the side of a room on its own, and because it is dimmable you can take it down to a gentle night-light level. On concrete, plaster, wood panelling or limewash the grazing light brings out the surface, which is part of the effect.

• Along a corridor: mount the centre about 5.5 to 6.5 ft (1.7 to 2 m) from the floor, a little above eye level, and space fixtures roughly 6 to 10 ft (1.8 to 3 m) apart so the pools of light overlap.
• Beside a bed: fix one on each side of the headboard about 4.5 to 5 ft (1.4 to 1.5 m) from the floor so the glow frames the bed without shining into the eyes of someone lying down.
• Over a mirror, console or artwork: centre it a few inches above the top of the frame; the indirect light creates a soft halo that does not cast a hard reflection.
• Stairs: run them at a consistent height above the pitch line of the stair to light the treads gently.

Bonnet works best on a wall with a little space above and below it, so the light can spread both ways.
