Light quality and how it performs

Fontanella is a lamp of two glasses. The inner tube is threaded and sandblasted, so it diffuses the bulb into a soft, even column of light; the outer bubble is clear and blown by hand, so it frames that glow and throws gentle reflections onto the table. The result is calm, decorative light that suits an evening in the living room or a candle-like accent on a dining sideboard.

The small size takes an E12 bulb up to 28W and the large an E26 bulb up to 77W. A dimmer on the transparent cord lets you set the brightness, and a warm 2700K LED keeps the glass glowing amber rather than cold. Because the light comes from the frosted core, you see no bare bulb from any angle.

Size and placement

Small (7.9 in high, 10.6 in diameter). A natural fit for a nightstand, a small side table, a bookshelf or a bathroom vanity ledge.

Large (10.6 in high, 15.7 in diameter). Better on a coffee table, a kitchen island, a sideboard or a reception counter, where its wide glass bubble can be seen from all sides.

Both sizes are low, so they never block sightlines: across a kitchen island, over a sofa back or along a console under a mirror. On a glass or stone table the reflections multiply, which is why the maker shows it on glass side tables and a stone island.

Living rooms and kitchens. Use the large Fontanella on a coffee table or island for a pool of warm light at the heart of the room, and the small one on a side table beside a reading chair.

Bedrooms. The small size is an elegant nightstand lamp with a dimmer for winding down.

Restaurants, bars and hotels. On bar counters, reception desks, lounge tables and guest-room nightstands, the glass catches the light and adds craftsmanship to a commercial space. It is plug-in, so no electrical work is needed.

Care

Unplug and let the lamp cool before cleaning. Wipe the clear outer glass with a soft, lint-free cloth and a little glass cleaner applied to the cloth. Wipe the metal base with a dry cloth only; avoid abrasives on the satin brass. Lift the lamp by the base, not the glass. Dry indoor locations only.
