The FontanaArte Fontana coffee table is an all-glass table for living rooms, lounges and reception areas where the furniture should hold its place without blocking the room. It is made from one sheet of 15 mm float glass, bent down at both ends so the top and the two sides are a single unbroken piece, with no legs, no frame and no joints. At 15.7 in (40 cm) high it sits at classic coffee-table height, and it comes in three sizes, from a 23.6 in (60 cm) piece for beside a chair up to a 55.1 in (140 cm) table for a long sofa.

Materials and build
Fontana is cut from float glass 15 mm (about 0.6 in) thick, then heated and bent at both ends so the glass itself becomes the legs. The edges are ground smooth. Because the table is one piece, there is nothing to assemble, nothing to loosen over time and no metal fittings to tarnish; what you see is the whole construction.
The thickness matters. Thin glass would flex and look fragile; at 15 mm the sheet holds its curve and its edges show a deep blue-green line that outlines the shape against a rug or floor. The curve at each end is generous and rounded, so there are no sharp corners at the sides. Use it as a coffee table for books, trays, drinks and decor, not as a seat or step.
Size and placement
All three sizes stand 15.7 in (40 cm) high, a comfortable height in front of most sofas with seats around 16 to 18 in (40 to 46 cm). As a general rule, choose a coffee table about half to two-thirds the length of the sofa, and leave 16 to 18 in (40 to 46 cm) between the table and the seat front so knees and feet can move.
Small, 23.6 x 15.7 in (60 x 40 cm): beside an armchair, at the end of a sofa, in a reading corner or as a low bench-style table in a narrow room.
Medium, 47.2 x 23.6 in (120 x 60 cm): the standard choice for a two- or three-seat sofa of roughly 72 to 90 in (183 to 229 cm).
Large, 55.1 x 27.5 in (140 x 70 cm): for long sofas, sectionals and lounge groupings in larger living rooms and hotel lobbies.
Where it works
Living rooms and family rooms. Clear glass lets a good rug, a wood floor or a stone tile stay fully visible, so the room reads larger. In a compact apartment the table gives you full surface area with almost no visual weight.
Modern and period interiors. The form is simple enough for a minimalist loft and calm enough to stand in front of a classic upholstered sofa or a paneled wall.
Hotel lobbies and lounges. A run of Fontana tables in front of banquettes or lounge chairs keeps sightlines open across a busy space and looks equally right in daylight and under evening lighting.
Offices, reception areas and showrooms. In a client lounge or a waiting area it gives a polished surface for magazines and coffee without competing with the brand, the artwork or the products on display.
Style and pairing
Fontana is pure form: one material, one gesture. It sits naturally in Modern and Minimalist rooms, adds a light, architectural note to Contemporary spaces, and works as a clean counterpoint in Transitional rooms with tufted or slipcovered sofas. Put it on a textured wool, jute or patterned rug and the pattern becomes part of the table. Keep styling on top simple, a low bowl, a short stack of books, a tray, so the curve of the glass stays the focus.
Why choose Fontana
- A table made from a single bent sheet of 15 mm glass: no legs, no frame, no hardware.
- Three sizes at one height, from a chair-side piece to a full sofa table.
- Takes up almost no visual space, so small and busy rooms feel open.
- Rounded bent ends with ground edges.
- A Pietro Chiesa design from 1932 that FontanaArte still produces.
Care
Clean with a soft microfibre cloth and a non-abrasive glass cleaner, spraying the cloth rather than the table. Dry the inside of the curves and the floor edges, where dust collects. Use coasters, felt pads under ceramics and lamps, and lift rather than slide objects to protect the surface. When moving the table, lift it with two people holding the top near each end; never drag it on its glass edges, and set it down gently on a level floor.
Frequently asked questions
How big is the FontanaArte Fontana coffee table? All sizes are 15.7 in (40 cm) high. Small is 23.6 x 15.7 in (60 x 40 cm), Medium 47.2 x 23.6 in (120 x 60 cm) and Large 55.1 x 27.5 in (140 x 70 cm), width by depth.
Which size fits a standard three-seat sofa? For a sofa of about 72 to 90 in, the Medium size is the usual choice. Choose Large for long sofas and sectionals, and Small beside a chair or at a sofa end.
Is it really one piece of glass? Yes. FontanaArte makes it from a single sheet of float glass that is curved at both ends and ground at the edges.
How thick is the glass? 15 mm, about 0.6 in.
Does it need assembly? No. The table is a single piece of glass with no parts to assemble.
Is the glass edge sharp? The edges are ground, and the bends at each end are rounded, so the sides have no sharp corners.
Can it go in a small living room? Yes. Because it is transparent it makes a small room look less crowded; the Small or Medium size suits most compact spaces.
Will it work in a hotel lobby or office reception? Yes. It keeps sightlines open across the space, has no hardware to maintain, and comes in sizes that suit banquettes and lounge groupings.
Is it certified? FontanaArte lists ETL (Intertek) certification as pending for all three sizes.
Who designed the Fontana table? Pietro Chiesa, the master glassmaker who co-founded FontanaArte, in 1932.
