Light quality and how it performs

Pallina's satin-finished opal glass hides the small G9 bulb completely, so the whole globe lights up evenly with no hot spot or glare. It gives a gentle, low accent light, enough to mark a shelf, warm a corner or light the edge of a nightstand, rather than a reading or task light. With a 6W maximum G9 bulb, a warm-white LED G9 is the natural choice; it keeps the glass cool and the glow soft. The lamp switches on and off from the cord and is not dimmable. The glow is at its most effective in groups: several Pallinas in a line create a rhythm of light inspired, as FontanaArte puts it, by the dressing-room lights of 1940s and 1950s theatre.

At 5.1 in (13 cm) tall and 4.7 in (12 cm) across, Pallina needs just 5 to 6 in of surface. It fits a bookshelf with 7 in of headroom, a narrow floating nightstand, the back of a bar counter, a vanity or a window ledge. On a nightstand, a single Pallina gives a soft night light; pair it with a wall light or a taller lamp if you read in bed.

Switch off and let the bulb cool. Dust the glass globe with a soft dry cloth; for marks, use a lightly damp cloth and dry it straight away. Wipe the polished or glossy base with a soft dry cloth only, as abrasives and polishes can scratch it. Keep it in dry indoor rooms.
