Light quality and how it performs

Lampara is a working light. The opaque metal dome hides the bulb from the side and directs its output downward in a broad, defined pool, so a counter, a table or a workbench is lit evenly while the surrounding space stays calm. The light from a single Lampara is enough to work by; a row of them turns a long island or a restaurant banquette into a well-lit, rhythmic line.

It takes one standard E26 bulb up to 116W, so you can choose the colour temperature and brightness that suit the room. FontanaArte lists Lampara as dimmable: use a dimmable bulb and compatible dimmer to bring the light down for evening.

Size and placement

Over a kitchen island. As general guidance, hang the bottom of the dome about 30 to 36 in (76 to 91 cm) above the counter. At 15.7 in across, two Lampara suit an island of about 6 ft, three suit 8 to 10 ft, spaced about 30 in apart on centre.

Over a dining table. Keep the bottom of the dome about 30 to 34 in above the tabletop. One Lampara suits a round or square table of about 36 to 42 in; two or three in a row suit a rectangular table for six to ten.

In an entry, stairwell or loft. Keep at least 7 ft (213 cm) between the floor or nearest step and the bottom of the dome. Under high or vaulted ceilings, a long row of Lampara at the same height, as in the maker photography, gives the room structure.

Installation. Lampara is hardwired to a ceiling junction box with a 5.1 in painted ceiling rose, hung on a steel cable with a transparent power cable. The maker drawing shows a 78.7 in (200 cm) suspension, set to height on site. A licensed electrician should install it; on sloped ceilings, confirm a suitable canopy adapter.
