Light quality and how it performs

Pangen's lacquered metal top is opaque, so all its light is directed down through the opal polycarbonate diffuser, which blends three bulbs into one wide, soft disc. Mounted on the ceiling, that gives a calm, even general light across a bedroom or corridor with no exposed bulbs and no glare. The glossy rim catches a little reflected light, so the dome keeps its colour and shape even when it is switched on.

Three E26 sockets of up to 46W each give enough output to light a medium-sized room on their own. The maker lists the ceiling version as dimmable; use dimmable bulbs and a compatible wall dimmer to lower the light in the evening.
