FontanaArte Tour Table, Square Glass Top on Four Bicycle Wheels, 47.2 in

The FontanaArte Tour table is a square glass table at dining and desk height that stands on four real bicycle wheels, made for kitchens, dining rooms, studios, meeting rooms and creative workplaces where the table is meant to start conversations. A ground float-glass top, 47.2 in (120 cm) on each side, rests on four spoked wheels with all-rubber tires; stainless steel plates fix the wheels to the underside of the glass and chrome-plated brackets carry each hub. You see straight through the top to the spokes, so a table that seats four reads as light, graphic and slightly playful rather than heavy.

Materials and build
The top is a square of float glass with ground edges. Underneath, four stainless steel plates anchor the wheel assemblies to the glass, and each wheel hangs from a chrome-plated bracket that echoes a bicycle fork. The wheels themselves are spoked, with all-rubber tires, and FontanaArte describes them as rotating: the table can be rolled a short distance to adjust its position, then stays put under its own weight on the rubber.
FontanaArte presents Tour, from 1993, as the evolution of Gae Aulenti's earlier Tavolo con Ruote (Table with Wheels). It keeps the idea of a glass top on wheels but borrows the wheels from bicycles, so the mechanics are on full display: hubs, spokes and tires seen through clear glass.
Size and placement
At 47.2 in (120 cm) square and 29.5 in (75 cm) high, Tour is a standard dining and desk height and comfortably seats four, one per side. As general guidance, allow about 36 in (91 cm) from each table edge to a wall or other furniture so chairs can be pulled out, which means a clear floor area of roughly 10 x 10 ft (3 x 3 m) for a dining setup.
Because the wheels sit at the corners and are inset under the top, check chair positions: chairs work best centred on each side, between the wheels. Under a pendant, hang the fixture so its bottom is about 30 to 36 in (76 to 91 cm) above the glass, and centre it over the table so the reflection in the top stays symmetrical.
Where it works
Dining rooms and eat-in kitchens. A square four-seater for everyday meals that makes the room memorable without crowding it; the glass keeps a small dining area open and bright.
Home offices and studios. As a desk or worktable it gives a large, clean surface for a laptop, drawings and samples, and its bicycle wheels suit creative, design-minded spaces.
Meeting rooms and agencies. A four-person meeting table with personality for architecture firms, design studios, galleries and creative offices.
Restaurants, hotels and showrooms. A statement table for a hotel lounge, a private dining corner, a concept store or a showroom display where the furniture should be photographed and remembered.
Style and pairing
Tour sits best in Modern and Contemporary rooms and in Minimalist spaces that welcome one bold, witty piece. It also works as deliberate contrast in historic rooms with frescoes, mouldings or old timber, where the glass and spokes look sharper against the backdrop. Pair it with slender chairs in metal, molded plywood or clear acrylic so the wheels stay visible, and keep the floor simple: concrete, terrazzo, pale wood or a flat-weave rug.
Why choose Tour
- Four real bicycle wheels with rubber tires under a clear glass top: a table with a story.
- Square 47.2 in (120 cm) top at 29.5 in (75 cm) height, seats four.
- Works as a dining table, a desk or a meeting table.
- Rotating wheels let you reposition it a short distance.
- Designed by Gae Aulenti, one of Italy's most influential architects.
Care
Clean the glass with a microfibre cloth and a mild, non-abrasive glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth. Wipe the chrome brackets and stainless steel plates with a soft, damp cloth and dry them to prevent water marks. Dust the spokes with a soft brush. Wipe the rubber tires with a damp cloth; avoid solvents and oil-based products on the rubber. Use placemats, coasters and felt pads under hard objects to protect the glass. Roll the table only short distances on smooth, clean floors, and lift rather than push it over thresholds or rugs.
Frequently asked questions
What are the dimensions of the FontanaArte Tour table? The square glass top is 47.2 x 47.2 in (120 x 120 cm) and the table is 29.5 in (75 cm) high.
Is Tour a dining table or a coffee table? At 29.5 in (75 cm) high it is a dining, desk and meeting-table height, not a coffee table.
How many people does it seat? Four people, one on each side.
Are the wheels real bicycle wheels? They are spoked wheels taken from the bicycle world, with all-rubber tires, fixed to the glass by stainless steel plates and chrome-plated brackets.
Does the table roll? FontanaArte describes the wheels as rotating, so the table can be moved a short distance. It is not intended to be rolled around regularly or over rugs and thresholds.
Can I use it as a desk? Yes. The height suits a work chair, and the 47.2 in square top gives room for a laptop, papers and a lamp.
What is the top made of? Float glass with ground edges.
Does it suit a small dining room? It needs a clear area of about 10 x 10 ft including chair space. In a smaller room it can work as a desk or a two-person table against a wall.
Is it suitable for restaurants or offices? Yes, as a statement table in meeting rooms, studios, showrooms, hotel lounges and private dining areas.
Is the Tour table certified? FontanaArte lists ETL (Intertek) certification as pending.
Who designed Tour? Gae Aulenti, in 1993, as an evolution of her earlier table on wheels for FontanaArte.
