Our Story

We Started MetropolitanDecor.com on a Saturday Morning at Starbucks. We Haven't Stopped Since.

MetropolitanDecor.com was founded in 2009 by a group of women entrepreneurs who believed that exceptional design shouldn't be hard to find — and that the people who sell it should actually know what they're talking about.

How It Began

It was May 2009. The country was in the middle of a recession, and driving through Southern California, we watched brick-and-mortar stores close their doors one by one. Most people saw crisis. We saw a window.

That same morning, over coffee, we mapped out what would become MetropolitanDecor.com — an online destination where the world's finest furniture, lighting, and décor brands could reach the homeowners, designers, and trade professionals who truly appreciated them. We incorporated in June 2009, and we haven't looked back.

What started as a bold idea during one of America's most difficult economic moments has grown into a 15-year track record of trusted service, authentic products, and genuine relationships with the brands and customers we serve.

How We Curate

We do not add products to our catalog from a spreadsheet. Every brand we carry has been evaluated in person — at trade shows, in showrooms, and in the places where good design actually lives.

Each year our team attends High Point Market and Maison & Objet in Paris — two of the most important design events in the world — where we meet manufacturers face to face, study new collections, and speak directly with the designers behind them, including internationally recognized names like Karim Rashid, Luca Nichetto, and Steve Jones.

We have a story that captures this perfectly. On one trip to Paris, we checked into a boutique hotel and immediately noticed a wall-mounted speaker we had never seen before. We turned on the Bluetooth, opened Spotify, and the opening notes of La Vie en Rose filled the room in the clearest, most beautiful sound. We were captivated — not just by the music, but by every piece of décor in that room. Before we left, we had already written to the manufacturer to express our interest in carrying their products.

Our Team

From day one, we built MetropolitanDecor.com on a simple belief: that talented, dedicated people can do extraordinary work from anywhere. Our team is made up of mothers and fathers who work from home across the country — people who joined us with varying levels of experience and grew into genuine experts.

That depth of knowledge is not something you can manufacture. It comes from years of caring about what we do.
