The FontanaArte Pinecone table lamp is a sculptural, dimmable glass lamp for consoles, sideboards, lounge tables and hotel lobbies: a blown-glass body that bulges through a diamond-pattern metal cage, like a pinecone straining against its scales. The transparent version throws a kaleidoscope of cage shadows across the walls and table; the white version glows softly while the cage draws a crisp geometric pattern over it. Two sizes and gold or chrome cages let it work as a warm accent or a cool, contemporary centrepiece.

Light quality and how it performs

Pinecone is made with the old caged-blowing technique: the glassblower blows molten glass into a metal cage, and the glass swells out between the wires. That process gives the two versions very different light. The transparent glass shows a second, inner layer and lets the cage project patterned shadows across the surrounding surfaces, a dramatic, jewel-like effect that is strongest in a darker room. The white frosted glass diffuses the light into a soft, even glow, with the cage pattern drawn sharply over it. Both take one E26 bulb up to 116W and come with a dimmer on the cord, so you can go from bright to barely-there. A warm-white LED bulb keeps the glass cool; for the transparent version, a decorative bulb looks best since it is visible.

Size and placement

The Medium (14.1 in high, 11.8 in across) suits a side table, a nightstand with room or a narrow console; allow about 14 in of clear surface. The Large (20.4 in high, 19.6 in across) is a centrepiece for a sideboard, a wide console, a reception desk or a large coffee table; allow about 22 in. To make the most of the shadow pattern from the transparent version, place it near a plain wall or under a plain ceiling. A Medium and a Large in the same finish work well together at different heights on a long buffet.

Where it works

Living rooms. On a side table or sideboard, Pinecone is a glowing sculpture by day and a mood light by night, with the dimmer setting the tone.

Dining rooms and entries. A Large on a buffet or hall console makes a striking first impression; the transparent version adds sparkle after dark.

Bedrooms. A Medium in White/Gold on a generous nightstand gives a soft, dimmable glow with a decorative cage pattern.

Hotels, restaurants and bars. Lobby consoles, lounge side tables, bar back-counters and restaurant sideboards all benefit from Pinecone's handcrafted presence. The shadow play of the transparent version is especially effective in dim, atmospheric hospitality spaces.

Style and pairing

Paola Navone's design blends craft and drama. Gold cages warm up Transitional and Contemporary rooms with velvet, walnut, marble and brass; chrome cages give a crisper, more Modern look alongside grey stone, black metal and white walls. White glass is calm and soft; transparent glass is lively and theatrical. Keep surrounding objects simple so the cage pattern and shadows remain the focus.

Why choose Pinecone

  • Hand-blown glass shaped inside a metal cage, a genuinely crafted object.
  • Transparent glass casts a patterned play of shadows; white glass glows softly.
  • Dimmer included for full control from bright to subtle.
  • Two sizes and four glass and cage combinations.

Care

Switch off and let the lamp cool before cleaning. Dust the glass and cage with a soft brush or a dry microfibre cloth; for marks on the glass, use a cloth lightly dampened with water or glass cleaner sprayed on the cloth, never on the lamp. Avoid abrasive cleaners on the gold and chrome finishes. Handle the lamp by the base. For dry indoor rooms only.
