The FontanaArte Pinecone suspension light is a caged blown-glass pendant for dining rooms, kitchens, entries, hotel lounges and restaurants. Each diffuser is blown into a metal cage, so the glass swells through the lattice and takes the shape of a pine cone, with the cage locked into its surface. The White glass versions give a soft, diffused glow that picks out the diamond pattern; the Transparent versions show the double structure of glass and cage and throw a kaleidoscope of shadows onto walls and ceiling. Cages come in polished Chrome or Gold, in Medium and Large.

Light quality and how it performs
Pinecone gives two very different effects depending on the glass. With White frosted glass, the bulb disappears and the whole body glows evenly; the cage lines read as a fine diamond pattern on a luminous surface, and the light is soft enough for a dining table or bedroom. With Transparent glass, you see the bulb through two layers, glass and cage, and the lattice projects patterned shadows across the room, a dramatic choice for entries, bars and dining rooms where atmosphere matters most.
Each pendant takes one E26 bulb up to 116W. FontanaArte lists every version as dimmable. With Transparent glass, choose a decorative filament-style bulb, since it is on show.
Size and placement
Over a dining table. As general guidance, hang the bottom of the pendant about 30 to 34 in (76 to 86 cm) above the tabletop. A Large (19.6 in) suits a round table of about 42 to 54 in on its own; a pair of Medium (11.8 in) or Large over a rectangular table for six to eight, spaced about 30 to 36 in apart.
Over a kitchen island. Two or three Medium pendants over a 6 to 9 ft island, with the bottom about 30 to 36 in above the counter.
In an entry or stairwell. Keep at least 7 ft (213 cm) between the floor or nearest step and the bottom of the glass. A single Large Transparent Pinecone in a foyer makes a strong first impression and casts patterns onto the walls.
Installation. Pinecone is hardwired to a ceiling junction box with a 7.8 in canopy, hung on steel suspension cables with a transparent power cable. The maker drawing shows a 98.4 in (250 cm) suspension, set to height on site. A licensed electrician should install it.
Where it works
Homes. Dining rooms, kitchens, entries and primary bedrooms. White glass with Chrome suits pale, calm rooms; White with Gold warms up wood and stone; the Transparent versions bring sparkle and pattern to evening rooms.
Hospitality and retail. Hotel lobbies and lounges, restaurants, wine bars and boutiques use Pinecone as a signature pendant over tables, bars and display areas. Its handmade glass and polished cage read as luxurious at close quarters, and its shadow play makes a memorable impression.
Style and pairing
Paola Navone's Pinecone blends craft and decoration with a Contemporary eye, so it sits easily in Transitional and Classic rooms. Pair Gold cages with walnut, brass, velvet and warm whites; Chrome with marble, pale oak, blue-grey cabinetry and nickel hardware. It works as well in a panelled period dining room as in a clean modern kitchen.
Why choose Pinecone
- Caged blown glass: each diffuser is shaped by hand inside its metal cage.
- Two effects: soft diffused glow (White) or patterned, sparkling light (Transparent).
- Chrome or Gold cages in Medium and Large.
- A FontanaArte design by Paola Navone.
Care
Switch off the power and let the bulb cool. Dust the glass and cage with a soft, dry brush or microfiber cloth. For fingerprints, wipe the glass with a cloth lightly dampened with water, then dry; clean the polished cage with a dry cloth only and avoid abrasive or chemical cleaners on the plated finish.
Frequently asked questions
White or Transparent glass? White glass gives a soft, even glow and hides the bulb. Transparent glass shows the bulb and casts patterned shadows across the room.
Chrome or Gold? Chrome suits cool, pale schemes with nickel or steel; Gold warms rooms with wood, brass and rich colours.
Which size should I choose for a dining table? A single Large (19.6 in) suits a round table of about 42 to 54 in. Use two Medium or two Large over a longer table.
How high should it hang? As general guidance, about 30 to 34 in from the tabletop to the bottom of the glass.
What bulb does it take? One E26 bulb, up to 116W. The bulb is not included; for Transparent glass, choose a decorative bulb.
Is it dimmable? Yes, with a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer.
How is it installed? It is hardwired to a ceiling junction box with a 7.8 in canopy. The maker drawing shows a 98.4 in suspension.
How is the glass made? It is blown into a metal cage, so the glass bulges through the lattice and the cage is locked into the surface.
Is there a table version? Yes. FontanaArte also makes Pinecone as a table lamp. This page is the suspension version.
Is it certified for the U.S.? ETL (Intertek) certification is pending, according to the maker.
Can it be used outdoors? No. It is rated IP20 for dry indoor locations only.
