A grand hourglass of twisted birch strips, up to 52 inches tall, that turns a stairwell or high ceiling into a showpiece.

The TR10 is the bigger, fuller sibling of the TR7, famous for its hourglass silhouette. Hand-assembled birch strips close around two bulbs, giving soft, diffused light with a little direct light escaping through the openings at the top and base. Each lamp shows its own grain pattern, since the wood fiber of every strip is different. Choose 39.4" or 52.4" tall; both are sculptural even when switched off.

About the designer

Tom Rossau grew up in Odsherred, the curving coastal landscape north-west of Copenhagen that has drawn painters for generations, and his first lamps appeared in 2005. Every Tom Rossau lamp is still built by hand in the company’s own workshop on Frederiksberg Allé in Copenhagen, by a single lamp builder who signs the card that comes with it.

Dust the birch strips with a soft, dry brush; keep the lamp away from water, steam and humid rooms, because moisture softens the veneer and can make stained colors bleed. Like all natural wood, the birch slowly develops a patina and may shift its shape very slightly over the years: Tom Rossau calls it a living material. Tom Rossau covers manufacturing defects for 2 years. Have a licensed electrician install hardwired fixtures.
