Mammalampa The Duchess Marble & Swarovski Pendant, Medium 17.7 in

A 17.7-inch dome of marble chips and Swarovski crystals: raw stone meets refined sparkle, a modern alternative to a crystal chandelier.

The medium Duchess is formed from rough marble breakstone with Swarovski crystals set by hand among the chips. As light moves across the surface the crystals catch and reflect it in a soft, shifting sparkle. It measures 17.7" across and 9.1" high, weighs 22 lb, and takes one E26 LED bulb up to 50W, hung on a steel suspension with a textile-lined cord up to 80". White pairs white marble with a white canopy and cord; Gray pairs gray marble with a black canopy and cord. It ships by truck freight.

About the designer

Ieva Kalēja is Mammalampa’s founder and designer. She starts from the material rather than a preconceived object and describes her approach as intuitive and feminine, sensitive to texture, atmosphere and emotion. Latvian design magazine FOLD reports that Elle Decor named her one of the world’s ten most talented women designers in 2020, and that she chairs the product-design jury of the National Design Award of Latvia in 2026. In 2024 she curated the “Summer” exhibition of design processes at Riga’s Museum of Decorative Arts and Design.

Why we carry it

We have been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and Mammalampa calls The Duchess a modern alternative to the traditional chandelier, and we agree: all of the sparkle, none of the fuss. Mammalampa is a family company in Riga, Latvia. Designer Ieva Kalēja started it with her sister after returning from her studies in Milan, and their father became the studio’s technical expert. The name joins “mamma” (origin, care, the human touch) and “lampa” (light), and every lamp is made by hand in Latvia from natural materials such as paper, stone, steel, canvas and crystal, with as little machine work as possible. According to Mammalampa, its lamps have been installed in projects such as Tom Aikens’s Tom’s Kitchen restaurants in London, Marie Burgos Design interiors in Manhattan, the Story27 offices in Los Angeles and the Dome Hotel in Riga.

Buy once: durability and care

Mammalampa’s care advice: clean gently with a soft, dry cloth, avoid abrasive materials, and always switch off the power before cleaning. A soft brush lifts dust from between the marble chips (our advice). Have a licensed electrician install it. Mammalampa lamps carry a 3-year warranty.
