About the designer

Ieva Kalēja is Mammalampa’s founder and designer. She starts from the material rather than a preconceived object and describes her approach as intuitive and feminine, sensitive to texture, atmosphere and emotion. Latvian design magazine FOLD reports that Elle Decor named her one of the world’s ten most talented women designers in 2020, and that she chairs the product-design jury of the National Design Award of Latvia in 2026. In 2024 she curated the “Summer” exhibition of design processes at Riga’s Museum of Decorative Arts and Design.

Why we carry it

We have been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and the Sisters floor lamp brings a painting into a corner without touching the ceiling. Mammalampa is a family company in Riga, Latvia. Designer Ieva Kalēja started it with her sister after returning from her studies in Milan, and their father became the studio’s technical expert. The name joins “mamma” (origin, care, the human touch) and “lampa” (light), and every lamp is made by hand in Latvia from natural materials such as paper, stone, steel, canvas and crystal, with as little machine work as possible. According to Mammalampa, its lamps have been installed in projects such as Tom Aikens’s Tom’s Kitchen restaurants in London, Marie Burgos Design interiors in Manhattan, the Story27 offices in Los Angeles and the Dome Hotel in Riga.

Buy once: durability and care

Dust the painted canvas regularly with a soft, dry brush or a lint roller; spot-clean only with a barely damp cloth, never soak or scrub it, and keep it away from steam and direct sun, which can fade pigments over time (our advice). Mammalampa lamps carry a 3-year warranty.
