Yamagiwa Mayuhana Yugami Floor Lamp by Toyo Ito

An asymmetrical Mayuhana lamp by Toyo Ito: two tilted spun-fiberglass shades for the floor or a low table.

The Mayuhana Yugami is a floor or table lamp with two nested spun-fiberglass shades on a steel frame, set off-center so the form leans like a soft, tilted cocoon. The fine strands give the shade a silk-like surface and diffuse the bulb into a soft, ambient glow. It measures 21.5 inches across and 21 inches tall and weighs 3.31 lb.

Why we carry it

We’ve been curating design-led lighting since 2009. Yamagiwa, founded in Tokyo in 1923, is a Japanese lighting maker that works with architects and designers; it makes the Jakobsson Lamp today and produces Toyo Ito’s Mayuhana series. We source it through Yamagiwa’s official US distributor, so you get the authentic lamp with US electrical (120V AC).

Buy once: durability and care

AMEICO’s care notes: don’t place the light in high humidity or in a bathroom; set it up on a level surface so it can’t fall over, and keep it away from combustible or volatile materials. The distributor doesn’t publish cleaning instructions; our advice: dust the shades gently with a soft, dry brush with the lamp switched off and cool, and avoid water and cleaners.
