Yamagiwa Jakobsson Pine Pendant Light, Large

The widest Jakobsson Lamp: a 21-inch tiered pine pendant that glows warm orange over a dining table.

The large Jakobsson pendant stacks thin bands of European pine into a 21.26-inch shade. Switched on, the wood filters the light to a warm, reddish-orange glow and shows off its fine grain, which is exactly why this design has hung over Scandinavian dining tables since the 1960s. Yamagiwa makes it in Japan today, assembled by hand.

Why we carry it

We’ve been curating design-led lighting since 2009. Yamagiwa, founded in Tokyo in 1923, is a Japanese lighting maker that works with architects and designers; it makes the Jakobsson Lamp today and produces Toyo Ito’s Mayuhana series. We source it through Yamagiwa’s official US distributor, so you get the authentic lamp with US electrical (120V AC).

Buy once: durability and care

AMEICO’s care notes: don’t place the light in high humidity or in a bathroom; set it up on a level surface so it can’t fall over, and keep it away from combustible or volatile materials. The distributor doesn’t publish cleaning instructions; our advice: dust the pine bands gently with a soft, dry brush with the lamp switched off and cool, and avoid water and cleaners.
