An LED lamp with no shade at all: it projects the image of a classic lampshade onto the wall behind it.
The YOY table lamp is a slim white stem with a tiny but powerful LED in its head. Turn it on and a perfect lampshade appears on the wall: light, shadow and a little magic. Set it 4 to 8 inches from a light-colored wall for the clearest projection. It draws just 3W, gives 100 lumens of warm light and is rated for 30,000 hours, so it is an accent light rather than a reading lamp. Its wall-mounted sister, the YOY wall light, won Best Lighting Sconce at the 2016 NYCxDesign Awards and a Red Dot Award in 2017.

About the designer
YOY is a Tokyo design studio known for objects that play tricks on the eye. Its YOYLight for Innermost projects the image of a lampshade onto the wall, and became one of the brand’s most talked-about pieces.
Why we carry it
We have been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and YOY is the lamp customers ask about most when they see it lit. Innermost was founded in London in 1999 by designers Steve Jones and Russell Cameron, who started out in an old lighting factory in Wembley and went on to work with designers from around the world who had made London their home. Its pieces hang in hotels, restaurants and shops from London to Dubai. Innermost has since closed, so what we have is the remaining new stock; once a finish sells out we cannot reorder it.
Buy once: durability and care
Dust with a soft, dry cloth; keep the lens in the head clean so the projection stays crisp (our advice). Have a licensed electrician install hardwired fixtures.
