ZEN is made from solid, untreated oak. One side is a cutting board with grooves that catch crumbs as you slice bread and rolls; flip it over and it becomes a serving tray with a slim raised edge and sides that are easy to hold. The medium board is 12.6" × 6.7", the large 15.6" × 9.8", both 0.8" thick.

The designer: David Meier

David Meier (born 1990) founded his studio, studiomeiid, in 2019 after a start in technical model making and degrees in industrial design (bachelor’s and master’s). His products pair serious function with a strong visual idea, and he is pleased when a design also makes someone smile. His first piece for blomus was the PALUA tray.

ZEN is a two-in-one board in solid oak: one side has carved grooves that catch crumbs when you slice bread, the other is a smooth serving tray with a slim raised edge. blomus is a family company run by the fourth generation of the Blome family in Sundern, Germany. It began in 1921 making bicycle parts, moved into copper, brass, pewter and stainless-steel design pieces in 1961, and has worked under the blomus name since 2000.

The oak is untreated; oil it with sunflower oil before using it with food, to protect against stains and odors. Rinse with warm water and dry; do not soak it or put it in the dishwasher. Natural oak varies in grain and tone from board to board.
