“Chapeau, hats off!” De Lucchi’s Chapeau collection turns the usual lamp inside out. Instead of a metal frame carrying a glass shade, a wide metal brim sits on a body of blown borosilicate glass that encloses the bulb. Below the brim a soft light spreads into the room; above it, a small spark glows. The pendant is 16.5″ across, made in Italy by Produzione Privata, the workshop label De Lucchi founded in 1990.

Produzione Privata is the workshop label architect and designer Michele De Lucchi founded in 1990 with Sibylle Kicherer, to make experimental objects free of commission with skilled Italian craftspeople. Its laboratories work in glass, ceramics, wood and metal; the Murano pieces are blown one at a time, so each is similar but never identical.

Buy once: durability and care

Glass and metal made to last for decades. Switch off and let the lamp cool before cleaning. Dust the glass and metal with a soft dry cloth; for fingerprints, use a cloth lightly dampened with water (or a mild glass cleaner sprayed on the cloth, never on the lamp) and dry it. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
