Sophie Taeuber-Arp Wooden Candlestick by IC Design

Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s 1929 candlestick in solid beech and glossy paint, in blue, red, white or yellow.

Sophie Taeuber-Arp designed these candlesticks in 1929 for the home she shared with Jean Arp in Meudon-Clamart, outside Paris. The simple cylindrical and orthogonal form matched the couple’s own furniture. This edition, made with the Fondation Arp, is turned from solid beech in the Black Forest, finished in glossy paint in four classic colors and fitted with a brass insert.

The originals are at the Arp foundation in Paris. Taeuber-Arp (1889–1943) was a Swiss artist, architect and designer whose work blended fine art and craft across painting, sculpture, textiles and dance. IC Design lists them at 20 cm tall and 4.5 cm across, fitting taper candles, with brass insets made in Switzerland and a decorative gift box.
