ENGAWA side tables come in two sizes made to group together: the Small is 17.7" square and 14.6" high, the Medium 19.7" square and 15.8" high. Set side by side, the two heights create a layered coffee-table arrangement; apart, each works beside a sofa, an armchair or a bed. The base is an asymmetric panel rather than four legs, and the beveled top flows softly into it. Both sizes are FSC-certified oak, made in Poland, in natural oak or black stained oak.

The designer: Carsten Gollnick

Carsten Gollnick (born 1966) founded his German studio, Carsten Gollnick Design, in 1997. His work looks at the daily rituals and culture an object will live with, and Japan has shaped his thinking since the start of his career: no object should outrank another, because even the smallest piece has a use and a meaning. The studio has designed more than 100 products, works with skilled craftspeople on bespoke commissions, and has won the iF Design Award, the German Design Award and the Red Dot. For blomus he also designed the MAKOTO tableware.

It began in 1921 making bicycle parts, moved into copper, brass, pewter and stainless-steel design pieces in 1961, and has worked under the blomus name since 2000.

Clean with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth and dry right away; use coasters under glasses and keep the oak away from direct heat. Indoor use only. The oak comes from FSC-certified forests, and the grain and tone vary from piece to piece.
