Visual Comfort SoCo Pendant – 1.7-Inch, Dimmable

Choosing pendants is mostly arithmetic: counter length, ceiling height and spacing. The SoCo Pendant (1.7" wide) comes with those numbers worked out below.

Where the SoCo Pendant works in the house

Kitchen islands and breakfast bars. Hang them in a row centered on the island, with the bottom of each shade 30–36 inches above the counter. Space the centers to suit the island length so the row ends short of the overhang.

Dining tables and banquettes. Two or three over a table read as a set; keep the line centered and the lowest point about 30–36 inches above the top.

Bedsides, offices and entries. Singles or pairs replace table lamps beside a bed and free the nightstand, or mark a small entry or reading nook.

• Over a dining table: hang two or three in a row along the table, 30–36" above the top
• 8 ft ceiling, 36" counter: overall drop about 24–30"
• 9 ft ceiling, 36" counter: overall drop about 36–42"
• 10 ft ceiling, 36" counter: overall drop about 48–54"
• Hall, stair or walk-through: keep at least 7 ft from the floor to the bottom of the pendant

Pulling the room together

Keep the pendant row on its own dimmer and add recessed or under-cabinet light for tasks. Match the metal to the cabinet pulls or faucet and let the counter stools carry the second material.

For commercial and multi-unit projects

For cafés, bars, hotel lobbies and restaurant counters, repeat the same pendant at a fixed pitch along the bar and specify one finish and one drop height across the whole run. We can total up quantities and spacing for your plan.

When another fixture is the better call

• Anyone who wants a shade: the bulb is the design, so choose a good-looking, low-glare lamp.
• Commercial 277V circuits: this version is 120V.

Care, cleaning and upkeep

The lamp is replaceable: it takes a standard E26 medium lamp. Natural and hand-rubbed brass are living finishes that patina and warm with age; Visual Comfort notes a brass cleaner can restore an uneven patina. Dust the frame with a dry microfiber cloth, power off. Installation is hardwired, so use a licensed electrician.
