Where the Dessau 16 LED Desk Lamp works in the house

Nightstands. Choose a lamp whose shade bottom sits near shoulder height when you sit up in bed.

Consoles, sideboards and shelves. A single lamp or a matched pair brings light to the wall without a hardwired fixture.

Desks and side tables. A compact lamp leaves surface space for work and a drink.

Room planner: size, height and placement

The numbers below come from the manufacturer's specifications and our own placement rules, worked out for the Dessau 16 LED Desk Lamp.

• Nightstand: its compact base also suits a bedside table for reading
• On a desk: place it on the side opposite your writing hand, with the head over the work surface (our advice)

Ceiling and table figures are our calculation for standard room dimensions, so measure your space. Have a licensed electrician install hardwired fixtures.

Pulling the room together

Use two lamps at different heights in a room, add a dimmer or smart plug, and match the metal to the picture frames or hardware.

For commercial and multi-unit projects

For hotels, restaurants and short-term rentals, a cordless or plug-in lamp lights a table without wiring. We can help you plan quantities by room type.
