Where the Dessau 12 LED Picture Light works in the house

Living rooms and dining rooms. Above a major piece, centered on the frame, to give the room a focal point after dark.

Hallways, stairs and entries. A short reach keeps the light on the art and clear of the walkway.

Galleries, hotel lobbies and offices. One per frame, matched in length, gives a consistent display wall.

Room planner: size, height and placement

The numbers below come from the manufacturer's specifications and our own placement rules, worked out for the Dessau 12 LED Picture Light.

• Artwork it suits: frames about 26–38" wide (light ≈ ⅓ to ½ of the frame width; our rule of thumb)
• Mounting height: center the backplate about 2–6" above the top of the frame (our advice)
• How far it reaches: 8.6" projection from the wall

Ceiling and table figures are our calculation for standard room dimensions, so measure your space. Have a licensed electrician install hardwired fixtures.

Pulling the room together

Put the picture light on its own dimmer, and balance it with a table lamp or sconce on the same wall so the art is not the only light in the room.

For commercial and multi-unit projects

For galleries, boutique hotels and corporate lobbies, we can help you match lengths to frame sizes and keep one finish and color temperature across the wall.

Care, cleaning and upkeep

The LED is built in, so there are no bulbs to buy or replace. Natural and hand-rubbed brass are living finishes that patina with age; a brass cleaner restores an uneven patina (Visual Comfort). Dust the frame with a dry microfiber cloth. Visual Comfort covers it with a 5-year warranty. Installation is hardwired, so use a licensed electrician.
