Miguel Milá’s Olympic ring of light: a 59.1″ crown of glass block on a black metal frame, lit by twelve bulbs.
Estadio was designed by Miguel Milá for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Conceptually it recalls the great cast-iron chandeliers of medieval castles and cathedrals, with their rings of candles. A tubular frame in textured black metal carries sections of glass block that diffuse the light through fine vertical plays of light and shade. The Estadio 150 is 59.1″ in diameter, hangs from a stainless steel suspension with a satin nickel ceiling plate on a 157.2″ cable, and takes twelve E26 bulbs of up to 75 W each.

Why we carry it
We’ve been curating design-led lighting since 2009, and Santa & Cole is one of the few houses whose lamps feel as current now as the day they were drawn. Santa & Cole has been publishing design from Belloch, near Barcelona, since 1985. The company calls itself an editor: it selects a work, often by an outside author, refines it with its technical team and makes it with craftspeople and manufacturers located as close as possible to its headquarters. Its catalogue answers practical questions about everyday objects, and many of its pieces, from the Trípode lamps to Miguel Milá’s designs, have stayed in production for decades. Miguel Milá is one of Spain’s great post-war designers, a self-taught interior designer and inventor whose lamps and furniture became modern classics. His honors include the first Spanish National Design Award, the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts (2016) and the ADI Compasso d’Oro for lifetime achievement.
Buy once: durability and care
Built from metal, glass block and simple, replaceable light sources, it is made to stay in use for years. With the power off, dust the glass blocks with a soft cloth and wipe them with a cloth dampened with water only, then dry them (our advice). Never use abrasive cleaners.
