Cubrik owes its name to the Rubik’s cube. Antoni Arola designed it for Santa & Cole so that one lamp could take on as many compositions as there are moods: its shade is made of white ABS plastic plates that each turn to the angle you choose. Close them for a calm, glowing cube; open some to let light escape in slices across the ceiling and walls. The hardware is finished in metallic white, the cube measures 15.75″ in every direction, and it takes a light source up to 150 W.

Santa & Cole has been publishing design from Belloch, near Barcelona, since 1985. The company calls itself an editor: it selects a work, often by an outside author, refines it with its technical team and makes it with craftspeople and manufacturers located as close as possible to its headquarters. Its catalogue answers practical questions about everyday objects, and many of its pieces, from the Trípode lamps to Miguel Milá’s designs, have stayed in production for decades. Antoni Arola (born 1960, Tarragona) studied design at the EINA school in Barcelona, worked at Lievore & Pensi and Associate Designers, and founded his lighting studio, Estudi Arola, in 1994. He received Spain’s National Design Award in 2003.
