A rustic earthenware sake set for two from Kumagai: a lipped pourer and two small cups, made in Japan.
Kumagai’s Nanban set is made for slow evenings: a low, wide pourer with a pinched lip and two small cups, all in earthenware, sold together. The pot stands 2.75 in high and Ø 4 in, the cups 1.75 in high and Ø 2 in. It is just as suited to tea, which is how it is also described, so it can serve sencha in the afternoon and chilled or warm sake at night. The earthy surface has the quiet, handmade quality of traditional Japanese tableware. Hand wash.

Why we carry it
We’ve been curating design-led pieces since 2009, and Japanese craft objects like this one earn their place by being used every day. Kumagai is a Japanese ceramics maker whose earthenware pieces are made in Japan for the table.
Buy once: durability and care
Wash by hand in warm water and let the pieces dry fully before putting them away; unglazed earthenware is happiest air-dried (our advice).
