Man Ray Chess Board by IC Design

The 17-inch wooden board made for IC Design’s Man Ray chess pieces, in clear lacquer and black.

This is the board for IC Design’s Man Ray chess edition, sold separately from the pieces. It measures 17 × 17 inches and is three-quarters of an inch thick, in veneered wood with clear lacquered and black painted squares and a wool felt bottom that protects the table. Made in Germany and gift boxed.

IC Design created the board as the companion to its re-edition of Man Ray’s 1920s chess pieces, so the two share the same black-and-natural palette. IC Design says the board was developed with a third-generation German family maker that has supplied chess boards to generations of players, Bobby Fischer among them.
