EO Play Elephant Night Lamp – White Leather, Rechargeable

A handmade French leather elephant with a dimmable, rechargeable light inside: a night lamp that looks like a design object, because it is one.

The EO Play Elephant Night Lamp in White was designed by Marc Venot, a Paris industrial designer who trained at ENSCI–Les Ateliers, worked with Hermès and Cartier before opening his studio in 2011, and was a 2016 laureate of the Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris. It is cut from thick premium-grade leather and handmade in France, and a USB-rechargeable light source sits inside, dimming steplessly at a touch. EO (short for “Elements Optimal”) is a Danish design house founded in Copenhagen in 2013 by Nicole & Tor Vitner Servé. Its EO PLAY line is a luxury collection of design objects for children, made with independent designers from around the world.

Who this is not for

• Anyone looking for a toy: the distributor states this lamp is NOT A TOY.
• Buyers who need published lumen output, color temperature, battery runtime or a UL/ETL listing; the distributor doesn’t publish them.
• Rooms that need an all-night plug-in light; this lamp runs on a rechargeable battery.

Why we carry it

We’ve been curating design-led pieces since 2009, and the kids’ category is where real design is hardest to find. EO’s elephant earns its place: according to EO it has been sold in the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art shop and at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, and it is built from leather rather than molded plastic, so it stays in the room long after the toddler years.

Buy once: durability and care

EO designs for long-lasting quality, meant to be passed on rather than replaced. The distributor doesn’t publish care instructions; our advice is to dust the leather with a soft dry cloth, keep it away from water and direct heat, and recharge only with the supplied cable.

Safety

Not a toy. Keep the charging cable out of reach of small children and charge it under adult supervision (our advice).

Frequently asked questions

Is the EO Play Elephant Night Lamp in White a toy?

No. EO’s US distributor states plainly that this lamp is NOT A TOY. Treat it as a lamp for a child’s room: place it on a nightstand or shelf, and let an adult handle charging.

How do I charge the Elephant Night Lamp?

It has an integrated rechargeable lithium battery that charges through the USB cable included in the box. A wall adapter isn’t listed as included, so plan on using a USB charger you already own.

Can the White Elephant Night Lamp be dimmed?

Yes. Touch control dims it steplessly, so you can go from a reading light to a low glow at bedtime without hunting for a switch.

Will the EO elephant lamp fit on a small nightstand?

It measures 21 × 15.5 × 18.5 cm (8.3 × 6.1 × 7.3 in), a footprint smaller than a sheet of letter paper, so it fits on most nightstands and bookshelves.

How bright is it and how long does a charge last?

The distributor doesn’t publish lumens, color temperature or battery runtime, and we won’t guess. If those numbers decide your purchase, ask us and we’ll request them from the distributor before you order.

Which other Elephant Night Lamp colors can I buy here?

EO makes the lamp in seven colors. We currently carry White plus Pink, Purple, Blue, Grey.
