A rounded soft-touch pedal bin with a soft-close lid and removable inner bucket, in 3-liter and 5-liter sizes.

The SONO pedal bin has no hard edges at all, just a rounded body with a matte soft-touch surface. Press the pedal and the recessed lid opens; let go and the soft-close mechanism lowers it quietly. Inside, a removable plastic bucket lifts out for emptying and cleaning. The small bin holds 0.8 gallon (3 liters) and the large one 1.3 gallons (5 liters), both in the seven SONO colors.

The designer: Nina Thöming

Nina Thöming (born 1984) is an industrial designer at Flöz Design, a German studio that has worked with blomus for about 15 years. She begins with research into how people really use a space, then shapes objects that solve that need quietly. For blomus she created SONO, MENOTO and MODO for the bathroom and PILAR for the table.

It began in 1921 making bicycle parts, moved into copper, brass, pewter and stainless-steel design pieces in 1961, and has worked under the blomus name since 2000.
