Handleless double-wall cups in 18/8 stainless steel that keep coffee and tea hot (or cold) longer, sold in pairs.
MAKOTO STEEL brings Carsten Gollnick’s MAKOTO shape to stainless steel. Each handleless cup has clean geometric lines and a slightly raised base that makes it seem to float above the table, and the double-wall construction helps hold the temperature of hot and cold drinks, so the outside stays comfortable in the hand. Choose espresso, coffee or tea size; each order is a set of two cups.

The designer: Carsten Gollnick

Carsten Gollnick (born 1966) founded the German studio Carsten Gollnick Design in 1997. Japan has shaped his work from the start, including the Japanese principle he designs by: no object is more important than another, because even the smallest piece has a use and a meaning. His studio has designed more than 100 products and won the iF Design Award, the German Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award.
Why we carry it
We are an authorized blomus retailer and have been curating design-led pieces for the home since 2009. MAKOTO pairs clear geometry with a subtle base that makes each piece seem to float just above the table. MAKOTO STEEL carries that idea into durable, insulated stainless steel. blomus is a family company run by the fourth generation of the Blome family in Sundern, Germany. It began in 1921 making bicycle parts, moved into copper, brass, pewter and stainless-steel design pieces in 1961, and has worked under the blomus name since 2000.
Buy once: durability and care
Dishwasher safe, according to blomus. Our advice: dry promptly to keep the brushed finish free of water spots, and keep them out of the microwave.
Frequently asked questions
Do MAKOTO steel cups keep coffee hot?
Yes, that’s what the double wall is for: it helps hold the temperature of hot and cold drinks longer than a single-wall cup, and the outside stays comfortable to hold.
How many cups come in one MAKOTO steel order?
Two. Each size (espresso, coffee or tea) is sold as a set of two matching cups.
Which MAKOTO steel size fits my coffee?
Espresso cup 1.9 fl oz (55 ml) for a single or double shot; coffee cup 7.3 fl oz (215 ml) for a cappuccino or flat white; tea cup 9.5 fl oz (280 ml) for tea, a latte or a larger coffee.
Can MAKOTO steel cups go in the dishwasher?
Yes. blomus lists them as dishwasher safe. Keep them out of the microwave.
Do the MAKOTO steel cups match the stoneware?
Yes. They share Carsten Gollnick’s MAKOTO shape, so they mix naturally with the Moonbeam and Elephant Skin stoneware cups, plates and trays.
How fast do MAKOTO steel cups ship?
They ship in 2–3 business days.
