The designer and the story

Gemma is part of the Origins collection from Viso Design Studio, the Toronto lighting studio founded in 1999. The studio works with architects and interior designers, which is why Gemma scales from a single drop to a 36 light cluster and offers custom canopies.

Watch: how the lighting brief is changing

Best for

Restaurant and hotel bars, dining rooms, stair halls, entries and double-height spaces.

Who this is not for

It is decorative lighting, not task lighting, and it is not for anyone who needs delivery in days.

Why we carry it

We have curated design-led lighting since 2009. Gemma earns its place because the size range lets one design serve a bedside and a lobby.

Frequently asked questions

How much ceiling height do I need?

Viso's spec sheet draws every Gemma cluster at 106 inches (2700 mm) overall height, about 8 ft 10 in from canopy to the lowest crystal, whatever the cluster size. It suits tall ceilings. If yours is lower, ask us before you order and we will check with Viso. The installation manual is linked in the downloads above.

Is Gemma certified for use in the U.S.?

Viso's spec sheet shows ETL (Intertek) and CE marks. The standard voltage is 120 V, with 220 V and 277 V offered by Viso. Ask your electrician to confirm local code before installation.

Where can I read the installation instructions before I buy?

The downloads section above links the Gemma specification sheet, the installation manual and the canopy options sheet, all from Viso.

Has Gemma been used in commercial spaces?

Yes. Viso's project photos show Gemma clusters at the Thompson Hotel, Mohegan Sun and AvroKO's Host on Howard, and several of those photos are in the gallery. Designers and contractors can ask us about trade pricing.

What should I check before ordering?

Confirm five things: your ceiling height against the 106 inch overall height, the cluster width against your table or stairwell, the glass color, your voltage, and an ELV dimmer if you want to dim. All sales are final.
