Vallvé Hexa Wastebasket Light Sky

A bathroom wastebasket with an open lid from Vallvé's Hexa collection: a crisp hexagon in Light Sky resin, handmade in Brazil.

The Vallvé Hexa wastebasket measures 7½ × 7½ × 12¾ in (19 × 19 × 32.4 cm) and comes in Light Sky with a polished finish. Hexa builds every piece on a hexagon. Vallvé says the hexagonal form and the printed transparency of the crystal resin give the set a three-dimensional effect; the distributor notes that the angles add dimension to a vanity.

Why we carry it

We've been curating design-led pieces since 2009, and Vallvé is the rare bath brand that still makes and finishes resin by hand. The Hexa pieces look like objects rather than accessories, and they are made to be used every day.

The Vallvé story

Vallvé was founded in São Paulo in 1962 by Josep Maria Sedó Vallvé, who came to Brazil from the Priorat region of Catalonia. He built his own machinery and techniques for working resin together with metal, wood and acrylic. Vallvé opened its first showroom, Cristal Banho, in 1978, and in the 1990s his son Pedro Sedó took over and made it the leader in luxury bath accessories in Brazil. Since 2003 it has won the Top of Mind Casa & Mercado award in the bathroom boutique category, and Vallvé says its production is still 100% handmade.

Worth the investment

Used every day for five years, $650 comes to about $0.36 a day (our math). You are paying for a hand-finished piece from a company that has worked in resin for more than 60 years, not a molded plastic copy.

Buy once: durability and care

Neither Vallvé nor the distributor publishes care instructions. Resin is durable but can scratch, so wipe it with a soft, damp cloth and a little mild soap, then dry it with a microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach, solvents and nail-polish remover, and keep it out of the dishwasher. Dry metal parts after splashes to avoid water spots (our advice).
