Why we carry it

We’ve been curating design-led pieces since 2009. Ucon Acrobatics is a Berlin design label known for minimal, city-ready backpacks and bags, built from recycled and vegan materials. The Phantom Series uses ECO-RFLX-900, a custom fabric woven with microscopic glass beads. By day it looks matte and dark; at night, headlights turn it into a highly reflective surface, so you are seen when it counts. The interior is light grey nylex, so small things don’t vanish in a dark bag.

About the materials

Ucon develops its materials from scratch and is candid that no material is 100% sustainable. It puts its main effort there because, citing McKinsey and the Global Fashion Agenda, more than 70% of the fashion industry's greenhouse gas emissions come from raw-material production and processing. The label has used recycled polyester from PET bottles since 2016 and has been a PETA partner, and so a fully vegan company, since 2015. Because fibre made from bottles is hard to recycle again, its stated next goal is polyester made only from recycled textiles.

Polyester is the label's core textile because it is tough, long-lasting and absorbs little water. Bags are rarely machine-washed, so they shed far fewer microfibres than clothing does.

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth; don’t scrub the reflective surface with abrasive cleaners. Empty the bag before cleaning and let it dry at room temperature, away from radiators.
