Best for

Best for living rooms and dens in front of the sofa, and patios, decks and covered porches in front of outdoor seating. Leave about 16–18" between the sofa seat and the table edge and 30–36" for walkways, and choose a table about two-thirds the length of your sofa (our guide). This one: at 39.4" it suits a sofa about 59–79" long. A round top has no corners to bump, keeps walkways easy and suits sectionals, loveseats and chair groupings as well as sofas (our guide).

Who this is not for

• Long sofas and big sectionals: at 39.4" it suits a sofa up to about 79" long (our guide: a round or square coffee table about half to two-thirds of the sofa length); in front of a 90" sofa, pair two or pick a larger table.
• Heavy loads: TOV rates the top for up to 220 lb.
• Anyone who wants a stain-proof surface: concrete is porous and should be wiped quickly and used with coasters (our advice).
• Anyone who wants to leave it uncovered in all weather: TOV recommends covering it during bad weather or when not in use.
