Best for

Best for patios, decks and covered porches as well as living rooms, bedrooms and entryways indoors. Set it within easy reach of the seat, roughly level with the sofa arm (24–26") or, beside a bed, close to the mattress top (our guide).

Who this is not for

• A nightstand beside a tall bed: at 17.5" it sits below a typical 24–28" mattress top (our guide); look at a nightstand or a taller side table for that.
• Anyone who needs it within days: it is currently on pre-order.
• Anyone who wants to leave it uncovered in all weather: TOV recommends covering it during bad weather or when not in use.
