Best for

Best for living rooms and dens, in front of the sofa. Leave about 16–18" between the sofa seat and the table edge and 30–36" for walkways, and choose a table about two-thirds the length of your sofa (our guide). This one: at 51.2" it suits a sofa about 72–82" long. A rectangular top follows the line of a long sofa and gives the most surface (our guide).

Who this is not for

• Loveseats and small apartments: at 51.2" it is sized for a sofa about 72" long or more (our guide: a coffee table about two-thirds of the sofa length).
• Heavy loads: TOV rates the top for up to 240 lb.
• Anyone who needs it within days: it is currently on pre-order.
• Outdoor use: this is an indoor table; TOV makes separate indoor/outdoor concrete coffee tables.
