Madison Wood is the most residential of the Madison family: a rounded tub armchair that sits on four splayed solid wood legs instead of a metal pedestal. The legs keep the chair fixed in place, so it reads like a classic Mid-Century reading chair beside a sofa, in a primary bedroom or across from a fireplace. Choose beech stained walnut, natural ash or, for a richer grain, solid American walnut. Under the upholstery is a steel frame with S-shaped springs, molded into injected polyurethane foam so the shell keeps its curve for years of daily use.

Planning notes

• The 18 in seat is about an inch higher than most lounge chairs, which makes getting up easier.
• Allow 30 in of floor depth plus about 18 in of legroom in front of the chair.
• Add felt pads under the legs on hardwood; the legs are fixed and do not swivel.
• American walnut legs are a surcharged upgrade with a darker, more figured grain.

Care

Wipe faux leather and PPM with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Vacuum fabric seats regularly and blot spills right away. Dust the wood with a dry cloth and avoid harsh cleaners. Wood, leather and fabric vary naturally in grain and shade from piece to piece.
