Seat upholstery. Faux leather is the entry option. PPM is a polyurethane performance leather, PPM-FR is its flame-retardant version, nubuck is a soft brushed finish and the off-white seat is a looped boucle. Camira Era is a woven contract fabric, Camira Blazer is a wool contract fabric, and the caramel seat is full-grain Italian leather. Screens show color slightly differently than real life.

Base finishes

The Gazel Wire stool rests the rounded Gazel tub seat on a sled base bent from solid steel wire, with a built-in foot rail at the front. Because a sled spreads the load along two runners instead of four points, it glides over rugs and wood floors more gently and won't sink into carpet the way narrow legs can. The wire frame comes in chrome, black, white, bone, red or gold, so the base can disappear in a white kitchen or become the accent at a bar. The seat is a sprung steel frame molded in polyurethane foam, covered with a removable slipcover.

Planning notes

• Choose Counter for 34 to 36 in counters; choose Bar for 38 to 41 in bar tops.
• Allow about 22 to 24 in of counter per stool.
• The sled runners need flat floor along their length, so leave a little room behind for sliding the stool out.
• Gold is the only finish with an upcharge; the other five finishes are the same price.
• Shipping: in-stock stools ship in 3 to 5 business days. If your seat and base combination is out of stock or on its way to our warehouse, please allow 10 to 15 weeks for it to ship.

Care

Wipe faux leather and PPM with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Vacuum fabric seats regularly and blot spills right away. Wipe the metal base with a soft, dry cloth; skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners, which dull plated and powder-coated finishes. Leather and fabric vary slightly in shade from batch to batch.

Is there a footrest?

Yes. The front of the wire sled forms a foot rail.

Counter or bar height?

The counter stool has a 24.5 in seat and the bar stool a 28.5 in seat, so this bar version sits a little lower than most and suits 38 to 41 in bar tops.

Is it good on rugs?

Yes. A sled base spreads weight along two runners, so it slides over rugs and won't dig in the way narrow legs do.

How much weight does it hold?

It is rated for 350 lb and the stool weighs 24 lb.

Why do prices differ?

Faux leather seats cost the least, PPM, nubuck, boucle and Camira Era cost more, and Camira Blazer wool and Italian leather cost the most. The gold-plated base is the one base with an upcharge.

Can I match the base to my room?

The wire comes in six finishes: chrome, black, white, bone, red and gold.
