Seat. Every Cattelan seat is carved from one solid hardwood: antique-brushed ash, sungkai, mindi in a wenge finish, teak in a walnut finish, or American walnut, which costs a little more. Grain and tone vary from seat to seat, and screens show wood slightly differently than real life.

Base finishes

The Cattelan PR Wire pairs a carved, saddle-shaped solid wood seat with an open frame of solid steel wire, so the stool reads almost weightless at a kitchen island or a café counter. Because it has no back, it tucks fully under the counter overhang and leaves sight lines open in small kitchens and narrow bars. The wire legs end in glides set into the metal, and a low wire stretcher doubles as a place to rest your feet. Finish the frame in chrome, black or bone powder coat, or gold, and choose the seat in one of five hardwoods.

Planning notes

• Choose Counter (23 in seat) for 34 to 36 in counters; choose Bar (28.5 in seat) for 40 to 42 in bar tops.
• Allow about 22 in of counter length per stool; the frame is 18 in wide.
• Backless stools slide fully under an overhang of 10 in or more, which helps in tight walkways.
• Pick bone or black to soften the wire against wood floors, chrome or gold to make it a feature.

Care

Dust the solid wood seat with a soft, dry cloth and wipe spills right away with a barely damp cloth, then dry. Avoid soaking the wood, harsh cleaners and abrasive pads. Wipe the base with a soft, dry cloth. Each seat is cut from solid wood, so grain and color vary naturally from stool to stool.

Frequently asked questions

Which height do I need?

The counter stool has a 23 in seat for counters around 34 to 36 in high. The bar stool has a 28.5 in seat for bar tops around 40 to 42 in high.

Will the wire legs scratch my floor?

Each wire leg is tipped with a glide set into the metal, which keeps the steel off the floor. Add felt pads on delicate wood if you slide stools often.

Is there a footrest?

Yes. The wire stretcher between the legs works as a footrest at both heights.

How much weight does it hold?

The Cattelan PR Wire is rated for 300 lb.

Why do some options cost more?

The ash, sungkai, mindi and teak seats share one price. The American walnut seat and the gold frame each add a small upcharge.

Is the seat upholstered?

No. The seat is carved from one piece of solid wood and finished; there is no foam or fabric to wear or stain.
