Hang the bottom of the shade about 30 to 36 in (76 to 91 cm) above a dining table or island, and keep at least 7 ft (2.1 m) of clear walkway height elsewhere.
For a long table, two or three in a row read better than one oversized fixture; for a kitchen island, space them about 24 to 30 in apart.
