Why we carry it

We've been curating design-led pieces since 2009. Roberto Cavalli is one of the few fashion houses whose prints translate to the table without losing their nerve, and Garden's Birds is a good example: you know whose it is from across the room.

The Roberto Cavalli story

Roberto Cavalli founded his fashion house in Florence in 1970 and built it on daring, painterly prints. He pioneered sand-blasted denim, and from the 1990s animal prints became the brand's signature. Roberto Cavalli Home was launched at Milan's Salone del Mobile in 2012, carrying the same animalier, floral and monogram codes into furniture, textiles and tableware. The tableware line covers tea and coffee services, serving pieces, candles and gift-boxed sets.

Worth the investment

Brought out twice a week for ten years, $440 comes to about $0.42 per use (our math). That is $220 per cup and saucer. Bone china, made with bone ash, is prized for being whiter, lighter and more translucent than ordinary porcelain.

Buy once: durability and care

The distributor doesn't publish care instructions. We recommend washing by hand in warm, soapy water with a soft sponge, no abrasive pads, and no microwave (the gold decoration). Avoid sudden temperature changes and stack with a cloth between pieces (our advice).
