A handmade cocoon pendant from Italy: a soft, mist-like shell around a precise orbital frame, in three generous sizes.

Turner, designed by Broberg & Ridderstråle for Pholc, wraps a metal frame of crossing orbits in cocoon, a fibrous material applied by hand in Italy using a technique established in the 1940s. Lit, the shell glows like paper lantern light with the lines of the frame drawn through it; unlit, it reads as a soft sculpture. Choose Turner 50 (19.7"), Turner 65 (25.6") or the statement Turner 80 (31.5"). Each takes a single E26 bulb, hangs on 10 ft of cable and is made to order by Pholc.

About the designer

Broberg & Ridderstråle is the Stockholm studio of Mats Broberg and Johan Ridderstråle. They work across architecture and design, draw on everyday life and like to mix a rational approach with a little wit and a clash between past and present; for Pholc they also designed Apollo, Romb, Kandinsky and Turner.

Buy once: durability and care

Dust the cocoon shell gently with a soft, dry brush (our advice); Pholc advises wiping its products with a dry cloth and never using detergents with abrasives or solvents. Have a licensed electrician install hardwired fixtures.
