What you are really getting
IIDA/HD Product Design Competition 2017 · Winner
GOOD DESIGN 2017 · Chicago Athenaeum
LIT Lighting Design Awards 2017 · Honorable Mention
- Hand-assembled in Sydney by NEOZ, the company that made the first professional cordless table lamp in 1995.
- One charge, many evenings: about 25 four-hour evenings on low.
- Built to be kept: battery, LED and diffuser are all replaceable, backed by a 5-year lamp warranty.
- IP52 rated: protected against dust and dripping water.
- Hotel-proven: according to NEOZ, its lamps light tables at The Ritz London, Claridge’s and Six Senses.
The Tall Poppy takes its cue from nature, standing high on a slender stem like a flower reaching for the light. Cast from durable diecast zinc alloy with a subtle fluted texture, it casts a soft, wide pool of light from a broad disc top, so the glow lands on the table without a bright source in the eye. It won the 2017 IIDA/HD Product Design Competition for lighting, among other honors.

Why cordless, and why NEOZ
A cordless lamp puts light exactly where people gather: the middle of a dining table, a terrace, a bedside with no outlet nearby. No cord to trip over, no drilling and no electrician, and unlike candles there is no flame, wax or smoke, just the same warm light every evening. NEOZ developed the world’s first professional cordless table lamp in 1995 and engineers every model for nightly restaurant service: Panasonic lithium-ion cells rated for 500+ full charge cycles, a battery you replace instead of the lamp, and charging that scales from a single base to a 48-lamp station. NEOZ notes it still services lamps that are 20 years old.

Why we carry it
We’ve been curating design-led lighting since 2009 and are an authorized NEOZ retailer. NEOZ, founded in Sydney in 1983, created the professional cordless table lamp and still hand-assembles every lamp in Australia. According to NEOZ, its lamps are specified in more than 100 countries, at venues including The Ritz London, The Ivy, Annabel’s, Claridge’s, Corinthia Rome, Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, InterContinental Sapporo, Mandarin Oriental Palace Lucerne, Six Senses, Sketch London, MGM Grand Macau, Crystal Cruises and Carbone at the Riviera in Las Vegas.
Buy once: durability and care
Dust the metal with a soft, dry cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners. If you store the lamp for a while, NEOZ advises recharging it every two to three months and keeping it below 77 °F (25 °C). When the battery eventually tires (NEOZ suggests every three to five years), replace the battery, not the lamp.
Meet the designers

The NEOZ Tall Poppy was designed by Peter Ellis & Gabriel Tam. Every NEOZ lamp is drawn, engineered and hand-assembled by the company’s in-house design and engineering team in Terrey Hills, Sydney, led by founder and industrial designer Peter Ellis.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the NEOZ Tall Poppy run on one charge?
It runs up to 10 hours on high and up to 100 hours on low and recharges in about 5.5 hours. Brightness has three levels; lower settings last longer.
Do I need the charging base for the NEOZ Tall Poppy?
Choose “Charging Base: Included” if this is your first NEOZ lamp. If you already own NEOZ bases, a charging tray or a trolley, choose “Not included”: the lamp works with all of them.
Can the NEOZ Tall Poppy be used outdoors?
It is rated IP52: dust-protected and resistant to dripping water, so it suits covered terraces and verandas. Avoid rain and never submerge it.
How long will the NEOZ Tall Poppy battery last, and can it be replaced?
The Panasonic lithium-ion battery is rated for 500+ full charge cycles. NEOZ suggests replacing it roughly every three to five years with regular use, and it is replaceable, so you keep the lamp.
What awards has the Tall Poppy won?
In 2017 it won the IIDA/HD Product Design Competition (lighting), received an Honorable Mention at the LIT Lighting Design Awards and a GOOD DESIGN Award from The Chicago Athenaeum.
